About Pumpkin Seed Childcare
Children can begin their voyage with us at 2 years of age, developing everyday skills in an age-appropriate setting, which can immediately be applied at home. We employ a play-based approach to learning, offering a balance of free play, both indoors and outdoors, with structured music, art, science, and other educational activities. We offer healthy home-prepared meals and snacks. We dance and sing, enjoy puppet shows, daily neighborhood walks, a backyard garden, lots of painting and drawing, and building community - and we do potty train! And when our kids venture off to kindergarten at 5 they are emotionally, socially, and academically prepared.

I cannot say enough great things about Pumpkin Seed, what they’ve done for our family, and what they mean to us all these years later. We had both of our boys in Pumpkin Seed from the age of two, and it was the best decision we ever made for our boys. We had to move to Colorado when our oldest graduated, and I am not exaggerating when I say that if we could have afforded to commute via plane to keep our youngest in Pumpkin Seed through his graduation, we would have done it. Damond and Jennifer are incredible, and they do an awesome job of preparing children for the transition into elementary school life. They have high expectations for the children, but are there every step of the way to support the kids in meeting those expectations. They let the kids have fun while teaching them responsibility, and they teach them discipline without heavy-handedness. Above all, they teach the children how to become themselves, and be themselves around others. The learning, the music, the walks, the holiday performances, the incredible meals, the nights out at the open space are all excellent, and our kids still talk about the memories from those times. To top it off, they provide detailed report

We were so fortunate to find the Pumpkin Seed for our daughter, who started there at 2.5 and stayed through kindergarten. Damond and Jennifer’s warmth, dedication, and genuine love for what they do made all the difference. They didn’t just focus on academics—they taught our daughter important values like kindness, sharing, and self-advocacy, which you come to appreciate even more as you see how rare these skills are in many other settings. Their approach also includes music, gardening, and plenty of outdoor play, giving the kids space to grow in so many ways. Plus, the strong sense of community they foster with family events like kite flying nights, outdoor movie nights and holiday performances made us feel part of something special. It’s amazing to think our daughter is now 20 and a junior at UC Berkeley, and we still credit her early success to her time at the Pumpkin Seed. I can’t recommend them enough!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I can’t say enough good things about Pumpkin Seed! From day one, Damond and Titi Jen were amazing. The childcare program is out of their home, which is clean and cozy, with plenty of outdoor space. The kids get to know the day to day schedule so well, they practically run it themselves. The home is organized, safe, and right-sized for child accessibility. One of the best things about Pumpkin Seed is how they handle potty training. Both of my kids started in pull-ups and were potty trained after the first week. The meals are another huge plus. They serve nutritious food, packed with fresh fruits and veggies, which makes me feel great about what my child is eating. It’s nice knowing they’re learning healthy habits early on. As far as outdoor space, there’s so much room in the back yard for the kids to run around and play, with awesome equipment that’s perfect for climbing and exploring. They have a garden from which lunch is often sourced. The activities were also great! From painting to crafting, free play, to early literacy, there’s always something creative and engaging going on. What really makes Pumpkin Seed special is the sense of community. They organize fun events

Highly recommend Pumpkin Seed! Our second child has been here a little over a year and has blossomed from a very shy, timid toddler- it’s been amazing to watch her confidence, humor and curiosity begin to shine! Damond and Jen lovingly challenge each kid in appropriate ways, while offering unwavering support and care to both the kids and parents. With Pumpkin Seed, you not only get wonderful childcare, but community and new friends, too.

Where to begin! Jen and Damond, the husband and wife team who run Pumpkin Seed are lifesavers in the truest sense of the word. They not only provide an incredibly safe and nurturing environment for the children in their care, but cultivate a strong, teamwork-driven community among the parents and implement a thoughtful, hands-on, and goal-driven approach for child development. They care deeply for each child in their program, and it shows through the individualized care and strategies for growth that they implement for each child. We joined Pumpkin Seed during Covid and, unlike our eldest's prior daycare, they were fully prepared to take on the rollercoaster of challenges that it wrought. We immediately developed a kinship with the other families in the program (who became our Covid bubble), and fell in love with the community environment. Seeing our daughter blossom into a confident, caring, and socially well-adjusted kindergartener by the time we graduated was due as much to Pumpkin Seed as anything. We remain close friends with many of the families who have graduated, and we now have a second child going through the program. Even though we've moved further away, it's easily wo
